Class notes:
Humans in Cave Paintings:
Humans in cave paintings are rare 
Animals always more detailed than humans
may be painted as part of a hunting ritual
rituals: ceremonies
may be asking for a successful hunt


Why draw animals?
may have believed they had "magical powers"
believed in spirits and that paintings honored them
belueved cave was a place of worship and paintings were used for ceremonies

Read pages 7-9 And answer the following questions




What clues do cave paintings provide?
What kid of artifacts have been found in caves?  Why are they helpful?
Why do scientists believe cave art was used as a ritual? Why do historians believe the cave men painted handprints on the wall?
